IT'S TIME TO GET BACK TO SUNDAY MASS !
God told us, “Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day!”
For two millennia, we Catholics have believed that we best keep Holy the Lord’s Day by Sunday Mass!
Yes, for the last year, we have prudently been able to decide that the emergency health crisis can allow us to excuse ourselves from that God-given obligation.

Yes, for the last year, we have prudently been able to decide that the emergency health crisis can allow us to excuse ourselves from that God-given obligation.
Our elderly, or people with compromising conditions that weaken them can still excuse themselves, as has always been the case.
But for the majority of us—are we going to restaurants? To the kids’ soccer and little league games? To the store? To the beauty parlor? To gatherings with family and friends?
Well, then, it’s time to get back
to Mass.
One of our fine pastors gave me this incident. He stopped at the supermarket in his neighborhood for a bit of shopping. There he kept meeting parishioners who greeted him and told him how they missed Sunday Mass and wanted to get back. Finally, exasperated, he replied, “Here you are in a crowded store shopping, taking your time, in contact with items touched by hundreds of people. Church is a lot safer! Come back to get food for your soul!”
A year ago, we, your pastors, advised you not to come to church. We had no choice, since wise health guidelines required us to close our church buildings. We reminded our people that protecting our health, and that of others, in the midst of an international pandemic was a very good moral reason not to attend Mass.
Our parishes responded with live-stream Masses, but all know those, however much appreciated, are not the same as “being there.” In the summer, those health precautions eased up a bit, and we could re-open and invite a limited number back. Our parishes rose to the occasion with scrupulous cleaning, sanitation, ventilation, distancing, and restrictions—masks, no holy water or sign of peace, no contact or communion from the chalice—and you gradually began to return.
No more gradual about it! It’s time to get back to Sunday Mass!

Last Sunday we celebrated our highest holy day—Easter! Jesus has risen from the dead! That very night, the gospel tells us, He celebrated Mass with the two disciples He had met on the road to Emmaus. He did that evening what He had done the Thursday before at His Last Supper. And, “They recognized Him in the breaking of the bread!”
We recognize Jesus at Mass and Holy Communion. We enter again the eternal, infinite mystery of His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. Every Sunday Mass is a renewal of the Last Supper, Good Friday, and Easter.
It’s time to get back to Sunday Mass!

Lord Jesus today is the feast of your victory over sin and death.
Let us never forget that it is our feast too. It is our victory… our sins that are taken away. Easter is our promise of resurrection and new life. Oftentimes, we have strayed away from you, from the Church, and from one another. Today we feel your peace.
Help us to turn back to you and to stay close to one another within the family of the Church.
Amen
If you are spiritually hungry
Christ is your food
If you are in doubt
Christ is the way
If you are alienated and upset
Christ is your peace
If you have sinned
Christ will forgive you
If you have strayed away from the Church
We welcome you home

Gospel: John 20:19-31
Jesus appeared to the disciples despite locked doors, breathed on them so that they could receive the Holy Spirit, and gave them the power to forgive sins in His name. Thomas, who was not present, refused to believe without seeing Jesus for himself. Jesus appeared again when Thomas was present, and told him, “Blest are they who have not seen and have believed.”
The 8th Grade students of Resurrection School will be participating in 2 Midnight Runs this Spring. During this year of St. Joseph, the students are blessed to have this opportunity to practice the teachings of their faith and emulate St Joseph’s example of selfless love and service to others. On this Run, food, clothing, blankets, and personal care items will be distributed to the homeless in NYC. Through the runs, the students hope to alleviate some of the loneliness and isolation felt by the homeless and create a foundation of respect, care, and empathy. Financial donations are critical to help the students prepare for the Run. Now more than ever our services are needed by our homeless friends. Please consider a donation to this cause. Thank you!
TRAINING FOR NEW ALTAR SERVERS
A new class of altar servers is ready to begin. Any boy or girl in grades 4-8 who is interested in becoming an altar server will need to attend two one-hour training sessions. The dates for these sessions are as follows: 4/15 @ 2:30 pm, 4/17 @ 2:00 pm, 4/28 @ 5:00 pm and
5/5 @ 5:00 pm.

Our Sanctuary was beautifully decorated for Easter this year with Easter Lilies, Azaleas and Mums. Many thanks to the Cox and Graziano Funeral Home and to our maintenance staff for making our church so beautiful. We are also grateful to Joe Viserta our Music Director, to our Ushers, Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, and Lectors. Also many thanks to our wonderful priests, Fr. Epi, Fr. David, and the Sacristans.

Catechists and other volunteers are needed! If you would like to be a catechist or a hallway volunteer please indicate so on your registration. Catechists will receive a full-tuition discount. Co-catechists and other volunteers will receive a 50% discount. Please consider this a meaningful and spiritually fulfilling way to serve our Resurrection Parish.

All are invited to the Bible Book-Club phone meeting on Thursday, April 15, 2021. The book for discussion is “The Eucharist Foretold: The LostProphecy of Malachi” by Mike Aquilina 2019 Emmaus Road Publishing, 176 pages.

And neither darkness, nor evil, nor even death itself could overcome it.
And we (like Mary, like the disciples, like “doubting” Thomas)
who have been there with you through Holy Week and the first Easter Morning
have been made witnesses to the resurrection story:
wondering, bewildered, hoping, rejoicing….and sometimes doubting.
It is not always easy to believe with our minds and trust with our hearts.
Loving Christ,
Open the eyes of our faith that we may behold the work of your redemption.
Open our minds and hearts to receive you, Lord:
your resurrection glory, your light everlasting.
May this time of worship, reflection and celebration be a worthy response to your love and your sacrifice for us.
