MIDNIGHT RUN IS OUR SECOND COLLECTION

THIS WEEKEND

The 8th Grade students of Resurrection School will be participating in 2 Midnight Runs this Spring. During this year of St. Joseph, the students are blessed to have this opportunity to practice the teachings of their faith and emulate St Joseph’s example of selfless love and service to others. On this Run, food, clothing, blankets, and personal care items will be distributed to the homeless in NYC.

Through the runs, the students hope to alleviate some of the loneliness and isolation felt by the homeless and create a foundation of respect, care, and empathy. Financial donations are critical to help the students prepare for the Run. Now more than ever our services are needed by our homeless friends. Please consider a donation to this cause.

Join us in recognizing RES parents Drs. Melissa and Mike Canter for their continued efforts in helping Resurrection School #CombatCovid.

The Canters have been consulting and providing resources all year, including arranging vaccines for our teachers and Covid testing for our community. Resurrection School continues to keep the health & safety of our students, teachers, and families at the forefront.

IT'S TIME TO GET BACK TO SUNDAY MASS!

God told us, “Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day!”
For two millennia, we Catholics have believed that we best keep Holy the Lord’s Day by Sunday Mass!
Yes, for the last year, we have prudently been able to decide that the emergency health crisis can allow us to excuse ourselves from that God-given obligation.

Our elderly, or people with compromising conditions that weaken them can still excuse themselves, as has always been the case.
But for the majority of us—are we going to restaurants? To the kids’ soccer and little league games? To the store? To the beauty parlor? To gatherings with family and friends?
Well, then, it’s time to get back
to Mass.

One of our fine pastors gave me this incident. He stopped at the supermarket in his neighborhood for a bit of shopping. There he kept meeting parishioners who greeted him and told him how they missed Sunday Mass and wanted to get back. Finally, exasperated, he replied, “Here you are in a crowded store shopping, taking your time, in contact with items touched by hundreds of people. Church is a lot safer! Come back to get food for your soul!”

A year ago, we, your pastors, advised you not to come to church. We had no choice, since wise health guidelines required us to close our church buildings. We reminded our people that protecting our health, and that of others, in the midst of an international pandemic was a very good moral reason not to attend Mass.

Our parishes responded with live-stream Masses, but all know those, however much appreciated, are not the same as “being there.” In the summer, those health precautions eased up a bit, and we could re-open and invite a limited number back. Our parishes rose to the occasion with scrupulous cleaning, sanitation, ventilation, distancing, and restrictions—masks, no holy water or sign of peace, no contact or communion from the chalice—and you gradually began to return.
No more gradual about it! It’s time to get back to Sunday Mass!

Last Sunday we celebrated our highest holy day—Easter! Jesus has risen from the dead! That very night, the gospel tells us, He celebrated Mass with the two disciples He had met on the road to Emmaus. He did that evening what He had done the Thursday before at His Last Supper. And, “They recognized Him in the breaking of the bread!”
We recognize Jesus at Mass and Holy Communion. We enter again the eternal, infinite mystery of His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. Every Sunday Mass is a renewal of the Last Supper, Good Friday, and Easter.

GET VACCINATED AS SOON AS YOU CAN, SURE!

OBVIOUSLY!

DON'T SHAKE HANDS!
BE GRATEFUL GOOD FOLKS CAREFULLY SANITIZE THE CHURCH AFTER EACH MASS.

BUT, FOR GOD SAKE, GET BACK TO SUNDAY MASS!

WE NEED MEDICINE!

WE NEED FOOD FOR THE SOUL!

WE NEED VACCINATION FROM SIN, SATAN, AND ETERNAL DEATH!

WE NEED HERD IMMUNITY AS SHEEP UNDER CHRIST OUR GOOD SHEPHERD.

ALL THIS WE BEHOLD AT MASS!

Gospel: Luke 24:35-48
Jesus appeared to two disciples, though at first, they feared He was a ghost. Jesus ate with them to prove He was not a ghost. He explained that He had fulfilled the prophet's words about Him. He also explained that in His name they must preach doing penance for the forgiveness of sins.

EARTH DAY APRIL 22, 2021

Despite our sins and the daunting challenges before us, we never lose heart. “The Creator does not abandon us; He never forsakes His loving plan or repents of having created us… for He has united Himself definitively to our earth, and His love constantly impels us to find new ways forward.”

“O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
who are so precious in your eyes…
God of love, show us our place in this world
as channels of your love
for all the creatures of this earth”,
God of mercy, may we receive your forgiveness
and convey your mercy throughout our common home.
Praise be to you!

TRAINING FOR NEW ALTAR SERVERS

A NEW CLASS OF ALTAR SERVERS IS READY TO BEGIN. ANY BOY OR GIRL IN GRADES 4 - 8 WHO IS INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN ALTAR SERVER WILL NEED TO ATTEND TWO ONE-HOUR TRAINING SESSIONS.

THE DATES FOR THESE SESSIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

4/28 @ 5:00 pm and

5/5 @ 5:00 pm.

1. Verizon has finally completed the work to upgrade our internet service for live streaming. It took longer than expected and we are grateful for your patience. Hopefully, this will solve any issue we had with live streaming.

2. There is ample room for social distancing seating in our church. The church was sanitized and deep cleaned on Friday. The bathrooms are cleaned between each mass.

3. Masks that cover both NOSE and MOUTH should be worn at all times in Church. This is the correct way to wear a mask as per NYS Dept. of Health/CDC recommendations. Extra masks and hand sanitizers (complimentary) are available at the Boston Post Road entrance.

4. We pray for the sick of our parish, especially FR. THOMAS LYNCH.

5. USHERS are NEEDED. All clergy are healthy. The priest will be wearing a mask during Communion time. Priests sanitize their hands before and after Holy Communion. Communion will be distributed on the hand only.

6. We pray for the deceased of our parish, especially: JOSEPH MURRAY,

WILLIAM A. FERRIS, MARY COTTER, RAYMOND JIMOLKA, FRANCIS J. HEARN, ROBERT DEMPSEY, and PETER CHUTE.

Cardinal's Appeal 2021

As our world continues to navigate an ever-changing landscape, we as Catholics ground our hope in the all-powerful God who loves and sustains us through life’s most difficult trials. Many of us here in New York are still deeply affected by the loss of life and the devastating financial consequences of COVID-19. We move forward, however, just as we started this journey – as a family.

Guided by the wisdom of Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you did for the least of these my brothers and sisters, you did for me,” our pastors, teachers, lay staff, caseworkers, ministry leaders, health chaplains, and volunteers will continue the crisis work they started in March of 2020. We are building on the work that the Church has always done, serving the most vulnerable among us wherever there is need.

We were blessed to have the resources, programs, and staff in place to distribute COVID-19 assistance throughout the archdiocese as soon as the pandemic broke out. It’s thanks to you, the faithful, and your unrelenting support of the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal year after year that we had this network of resources in place. Your generous donations to already needy parishes made it possible for them to weather the storm, ministering to the sick, the hungry, the jobless, and the grieving. In partnership with Catholic Charities, our parishes and pantries were able to distribute over a million meals and offer essential human services to our communities. Your role is essential to all we do and for this, we are grateful.

• Late Registration- May 14 - June 11 (a $50.00 late fee will apply)
Catechists and other volunteers are needed! If you would like to be a catechist or a hallway volunteer please indicate so on your registration. Catechists will receive a full-tuition discount. Co-catechists and other volunteers will receive a 50% discount. Please consider this a meaningful and spiritually fulfilling way to serve our Resurrection Parish.
