Cherko Country Line dancing will be working with Our Parish to offer weekly Line Dancing lessons on Monday Nights beginning tomorrow March 6th, 2023 at 6:30 pm in the lower Church Hall.
At 6:30 there will be a beginner class where no experience is needed. Your instructor will teach you the basics and build your skills so you will be comfortable keeping up with the experienced folks at local open dances or while traveling to your favorite honky Tonks.
At 7:30 the intermediate class will start, where the dances are faster, the steps a little more complicated and the pace of instruction picks up as well.
Everyone is welcome to stay for any portion of each class or the entire 2 hours. It's a great way to get to know others who are actively loving line dancing.
These classes will be offered free of charge in an effort to get more people moving and back out having a great time after the past few years have made that difficult. You are welcome to make a FREE-WILL DONATION to take care of the instructor however it is not a requirement. We hope you will come and enjoy the music and dancing!
Line dancing is something that anyone can learn regardless of how many left feet you have. It will strengthen your connection to music, whether country, pop, hip-hop, or many others. Cherko Country Line Dancing tends to dance to the modern country from the 2000s through today, with the occasional mix of other genres depending on how great the dances are to those songs.
Your instructor Adam Cherko is a longtime resident of Westchester. He started line dancing at The Mishnock Barn in West Greenwich RI, which is owned and operated by the Albro Family. Adam was taught by the legendary choreographer, instructor, and musician, Dan Albro. Since returning to NY, Adam has been instructing line dancing since 2014 and has made line dancing a special part of hundreds of people's lives.
It is recommended to wear shoes with leather soles or dancing shoes. Cowboy boots are the choice of the dance instructor but make sure they have leather soles and not rubber. It will make a huge difference on the ease of turning. Wear your favorite country attire, including hats and buckles, but it is far from a requirement! It's all about having fun with new and old friends. We look forward to seeing you on the dance floor!
Classes will start March 6th, 2023 from 6:30 to 8:30 with beginner class first and then a smooth transition into the intermediate lessons.
All ages are welcome and encouraged to try this. If you are old enough to listen to direct instruction and able to stand without aid you will have an amazing time, but again everyone is welcomed to come and enjoy the evening.
